The Story Behind the Name
Terra Saronia was created in 2024 with the desire to offer a welcoming place of relaxation, closely connected to the land, the sea, and the unique history of Troizinia.
Its name was not chosen by chance. The word Terra symbolises the earth and our deep connection with nature, while Saronia draws inspiration from the mythical King Saron, who, according to ancient tradition, gave his name to the Saronic Gulf.
The Myth of Saron
Saron was an ancient king of Troezen, renowned for his hunting skills and his great devotion to the goddess Artemis.
According to the account of the traveller Pausanias, one day Saron was chasing a deer when it leapt into the sea in an attempt to escape. Driven by the thrill of the hunt, the king followed it, swimming farther and farther away from the shore. Exhausted by the effort and unable to withstand the waves, he drowned in the waters of ancient Lake Psifta, in the area known today as Psifta.
His body was washed ashore near the sacred grove of Artemis, where he was buried. It is said that the surrounding sea was named the Saronic Gulf in his honour, preserving his name through the centuries.
